How to do Byron Sunrise and Sunset like a local
At Sienna, we are all suckers for the sunrise and sunset. Living in Byron, we are very lucky to have such beautiful spots to watch them day- in and day-out. So if you’re visiting and want a little bit of local’s knowledge on what to do and where to go for Byron sunrise and sunset, we’ve laid it out here for you!
This one is a bit of a no-brainer. The Cape Byron Lighthouse is the most Eastern point of Australia, so the sunrises are fairly spectacular on a daily basis! The hour before the sun finally peeks over the horizon is beautiful to witness, as the sky lights up with pastel shades of orange, pink and blue. Walk (or drive) up to the lighthouse with plenty of time before sunrise, find a spot to perch yourself and settle back and relax. If it’s a peaceful and calm morning, you listen to the waves crashing down below, and the birds as they begin to wake up for the day. There is usually quite a crowd up at the lighthouse, but never bustling or too overcrowded (except some times during the summer). Everyone is respectful and calm, photographers with their time-lapse cameras dotted along the road. It is a beautiful contrast to the buzz in town.
Main Beach at Byron is where the hub of sunset activity happens every evening. It is the perfect spot to go with friends and a picnic blanket, find a patch of grass and chill out. The reflection of the sky onto the ocean is spectacular on slightly cloudy or clear days. For an amazing view and perfect photo opportunity, park at Clarkes Beach, and walk along the boardwalk. There is an opening in the trees that looks out across Clarkes, down to Main Beach, and the sun sets over the mountain in the distance. We like to time our evening walks to catch this part of the sunset from the boardwalk.
Next time you’re in Byron, make sure you set your alarm early for at least one sunrise, and break away from the pub or restaurant one evening to watch the sunset from Main Beach. Our Sunset Pinks pack is the perfect representation of the colours across the sky on the sun’s journey every evening. It’s a simple way to add so many beautiful memories to your time in Byron Bay.
