Some of the world’s most most renowned writers heading in our direction for Byron Writers Festival.
There are always different festivals and events gracing our sunny shores here in Byron Bay. Whether is be some of the biggest music festivals in the country, or local surfing events, there is always something happening in Byron Bay. This weekend is no different- and is one for all you literary fiends! The Byron Writers Festival is coming back for three days full of inspiring words, stories and workshops from world-renowned writers, this August 3-5. This year over 140 writers and thinkers are on the lineup, covering topics that include science, crime, anxiety and romance. The festival is all things Byron Bay- a relaxed atmosphere and with a diverse celebration of storytelling in all its forms.
Of the guests we are looking forward to listening to at the Byron Writers Festival, Manal al-Sharif is at the top of the list. Manal is a Saudi-Arabian woman, who in 2011 was jailed for driving a car. She was publicly shamed for her conviction, but was inspired to start the Women2Drive campaign in her company, inspiring a movement amongst other females feeling the same scrutiny. Manal is talking in two sessions on Saturday of the writers festival- both sessions we are eager to see.
Local talent, stand-up comedian Mandy Nolan is another must see at the Bryon Writer’s Festival. Mandy’s journalism, comedy and column writing background is on show as a regular panellist at the event. We are particularly excited to hear her in conversation with Kitty Flanagan on Friday, and discussing song writing with Bernard Fanning and Tim Rogers on Sunday.
Byron Writers Festival is not only the perfect opportunity to hear your favourite world renowned writers talk in-depth about their passion and inspirations, it’s also a continuous discussion about the topics shaping today’s society. Take a look through the featured events for the weekend, for an overview of some of the hotly anticipated events.
