People and planet are everything to us.
We want to show you that we walk our talk.
Sustainability is at the centre of everything we do. Sienna leads the way in best practice for nail polish quality, production and formula, and we will keep pushing forward to inspire a sustainable, ethical approach to beauty. Everything starts at the polish. How can we create the best formula? How can we do the best by our planet, and our people?
Rather than use an unnecessary plastic cap, we use timber. Our signature caps are hand crafted from a local, non-native weed wood. We work to keep local rainforest areas free from this pest and allow native revegetation to flourish in its place.
Sienna is 100% vegan and cruelty free with the certifications to prove it. This is core to our product. We will never sell our polish in markets that require animal testing.
Sienna was the first Australian polish to be completely free of Benzophenone -1. Our formula is proudly non-toxic and we are the cleanest nail polish on the market, globally. We were also the first nail polish company to ban the micro-plastic, glitter, from all production.
We innovate to find effective alternatives. Our nail polish remover is based on soy beans and is completely free of any nasties.
Our production happens within Australia to keep our carbon footprint low. In fact, most within 100kms of our warehouse.
Packaging is 100% recyclable and we run an in-house recycling program so customers can return their empties.
Printing is 100% local on recycled stock.
Our Polishes are Recyclable!
We are changing the way people dispose of their nail polish, and doing it alongside Planet Ark for National Recycling Week.
We have teamed up with our local recycling centre to correctly and thoughtfully dispose of our old nail polish bottles, in a way that has little impact on our environment.
Sustainability is of huge importance for us, and there is no reason for nail polish to be any different. It is our aim to implement an ongoing cycle, where the creation and recycling of our polishes goes hand-in-hand, reducing the impact on the environment as much as possible.
Recycling our bottles is too simple! The timber cap can be put straight into your compost bin. The plastic brush and glass bottle need to be washed with nail polish remover to ensure they are free of any excess residue. Place the brushes and bottles in separate milk containers or plastic water bottles, and then into your recycling bin. If you have any bottles you are unsure of, send them to us, and we can dispose of them correctly!
We source all ingredients for Sienna from organisations that are child labour free – and we always will.
We invest in our communities by sourcing locally and giving back.
We partner with local charities like Heartfelt Homes and Future Dreamers and continue to support Rafiki Mwema through an ongoing sponsorship.
Beauty is for everyone.
Our collections are gender-inclusive. Our formula is water permeable and Wudu-friendly, which means it is suitable for people of Muslim faith. No-one gets left behind.
We believe it is important as a business to stand by our ethics and values, through aligning ourselves with well-known organisations. This means that as our customers, we are showing you that not only are we true to our word, but we are active in supporting what we believe in.
Sienna is extremely proud to be a certified B Corporation. Certified B Corporations meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
Safe Cosmetics Australia
(the Toxic-free campaign)
Acting as a consumer voice and third party for brands, SCA is continuously propelling the beauty industry to exclude and restrict potentially harmful chemicals from their products. Safe Cosmetics Australia is calling all brands to provide ingredient transparency and to leave out chemicals that are known to be toxic or associated with triggering allergies and skin irritation. SCA campaigns to improve the standards of cosmetics, personal care and household products. Governing the terms Australian Certified Toxic-Free®, Made Safe® and Allergy Certified® SCA’s registered Australian trademarks are licensed to brands that pledge to uphold greater manufacturing principles.
The Australian Made Campaign is designer to inform consumers where the products they are purchasing originate from. It ensures the quality of the product is high, as it has been manufactured to the high Australian standards. There is a direct correlation between consumer purchasing behaviour and employment, local economic development and prosperity. When you purchase Australian Made, you are supporting your local community, building the Australian economy and putting more Australians in jobs.
Choose Cruelty Free Australia
Choose Cruelty Free is an independent, non-profit organisation that campaigns for an end to animal testing of cosmetics, and accredits cruelty free companies. CCF is designed to:
- encourage manufacturers to adopt a cruelty-free ethic
- make people aware of their power as consumers, to change attitudes about animal testing
- provide a widely-recognised cruelty-free logo that consumers and manufacturers can identify
Vegan Action is a non-profit organisation and has one of the most visited and widely-known vegan websites in the world. The organisation works in eliminating animal suffering, reduce environmental impacts and improve human health through a vegan diet.
(Beauty without Bunnies program)
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organisation in the world. PETA is very visible in public action through education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue and protest campaigns. The Beauty without Bunnies program is a resource where conscientious shoppers can search for cruelty free products, and know they are helping save animals from the excruciating tests they are victims of with unethical brands.
We are certified through Halal Australia as there is no animal harm in the production process of any Sienna Byron Bay products.
Who we support
We believe in giving back to the community and we want to be helpful. Sienna is committed to giving a platform to charities and organisations doing great work.
Stay tuned for more collaborations… coming soon!
Rafiki Mwema is a non-profit organisation created by two pioneering women, Anne-Marie, from the UK, and Sarah, a local, from Lennox Head near Byron Bay. Together they raise money to help young sex abuse survivors from Kenya to live safely and understand their frightening experiences.
Every month, we give Rafiki Mwema a donation to sponsor ‘Elizabeth’ – a child in Kenya. The situation these young children face is horrific and we wanted to help as much as we could. We no longer create our Rafiki Mwema polish, so this is how we continue to support them.
Future Dreamer Girls Club is a safe, uplifting and interactive space for girls and women to be supported. The club offers a range of age-appropriate, specifically designed activities and events to inspire, connect, challenge and celebrate. So far, over they’ve had 4740 girls through the doors of their HQ in Byron Bay.
We worked with Future Dreamers to create a gorgeous limited edition turquoise pearl polish, with all profits going directly to the clubhouse and the programs they run.
We also ran a workshop with the passionate Future Dreamers team and 30 energetic, 11 year old girls at their HQ. You can read more about the fun on our blog, Sienna X Future Dreamers.
Heartfelt Homes provides subsidised accommodation for regional, rural and remote families of patients in hospitals far from home. Keeping families connected during these difficult times helps everyone, especially the patient.
When listening to Caroline’s personal journey and how it motivated her to start Heartfelt Homes, we felt compelled to help as much as we could. Together we created a glitter bomb red charity collaboration colour and all profits go directly to Heartfelt Homes.
